1962 - has been arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment in the notorious Robben Island prison
1990 - Mandela's release from prison
1993 - was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize
1994 - was inaugurated as the first democratically elected State of South Africa
1994-1999 - was a President

2- massacre of 63 black South African's changed the whole political climate.
3- The majority of Black South Africans had little opportunities either Economic or Political.
4- helped to keep other men's spirits high and never compromised his political principles when offered earliest release.
5- Although negotiations were painfully slow and difficult, they eventually led to Mandela's release in 1990.
